Background: CD9 is a member of the tetraspan family of membrane proteins. First described on non-T acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells and developing B-lymphocytes it has since been shown to be involved in platelet activation and aggregation, gamete fusion, cell adhesion, cell motility, tumor metastasis, and intracellular signaling in the nervous system.
